Malo Island

Malo Island (formerly known as St. Bartholomew) is located in Sanma Province, off the Southern coast of Espiritu Santo, and is the second largest island in Vanuatu.
Malo Island has white-sand beaches, great snorkelling along the coast and easy walks. With very few tourists visiting, it is a beautiful and unspoiled island where you can relax and enjoy the local lifestyle.

There are regular speedboats from Malo Landing, on Espiritu Santo, to Avunatari on west Malo. Avunatari is a well organized community with a medical centre and a private guest house for visitors. It is a lovely escape from the larger towns of Luganville and Port Vila and is a typical example of Vanuatu village life.
Located in a delightful garden, the Pandanus Guest House has three bungalows and a comfortable dining room that caters for all meals. Mosquito nets are provided, and shower and flush toilet are available for all guests, with lighting in the evenings provided by a generator. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are catered for, and the food is delicious and plenty.
Short tours are available for those wishing to explore the island further. These includes:

  • A Cave and Garden tour
  • Beach visits
  • Around Malo Island Tour

Your hostess at the guest house can also organise an exclusive cultural event displaying custom dancing from Malo Island and traditional food preparation.
